Performance Analysis of Oil and Gas Field through Reservoir Simulation and Modelling

Reservoir Simulation and Modelling is one of the best and optimum ways to analyze the field and derive valuable insights effectively. In the project, during an internship at the Institute of Reservoir Studies (IRS) ONGC, the Petrel software was used to build the field’s representative static and dynamic models, perform history matching, and analyze the 4 different variants selected from careful study and analysis of the field.

Performance Analysis of Oil and Gas Field through RMS

The internship project at IRS ONGC was primarily focused on the performance analysis and field development plan of the oil and gas fields through reservoir simulation and modeling. The actual field data was used to develop the representative static and dynamic models using Petrel software. Data analysis and history matching were conducted and the performance of the field was analyzed considering different injection scenarios.

In total, four different variants were selected and analyzed:

  1. Business as Usual (BAU) with current producers/injectors.
  2. BAU with an increased number of producer wells at optimized locations.
  3. BAU with an increased number of producer wells with 9  new development locations.
  4. BAU with an increased number of producer wells and injector wells in new locations.

After careful analysis of all four different variants, Variant 3 was found out as the most optimized and efficient from all the other selected variants comparatively.
